Founded in 1993 by a group of passionate railway enthusiasts, The Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust has a proud history of developing its collection of historic railway artefacts as well as restoring and returning to working order historic steam locomotives and coaches in the collection. Over the years, our work has grown to include the restoration of additional locomotives and railway carriages, all supported by our professional base at WEST SHED, located at the Midland Railway-Butterley.
As a charity, the Trust depends on the generosity of the public. Every restoration, exhibition and preservation project is made principally through donations, which help us safeguard Britain’s railway heritage for future generations.
Stay connected by following our social media channels to keep up with the latest news, restoration updates, special events, and volunteer opportunities. You’ll get behind-the-scenes glimpses of the workshop, museum, track progress on locomotive projects and receive early alerts about visits and open days. As a supporter, you gain access to unique content, community stories and ways to help — including the chance to become a Patron and play an active role in preserving Britain’s steam heritage.

We own a number of historic steam locomotives and railway carriages which have all been rescued and restored by the Trust over the years. Some are in working order and some are on static display.
